How much does it cost to have Dr Shakil as a private obstetrician?
To discuss the fee structure in detail please contact Dr Ahmed’s practice either by calling on 96022488 during office hours or by sending a message on the enquiry form in the contact us page. Your fees will vary depending on whether you have private insurance and the level of cover.

Do I need a private insurance?
It is not a must to have private insurance but is recommended. The private health funds only insure you for your in-patient care that while you are admitted antenatally or when having the baby. The fund pays for the hospital bed and also covers the obstetricians cost at the time of delivery. If someone is not covered by a fund, there are out of pocket expenses both for the hospital stay and delivery.
Private insurance do not cover for the pregnancy management fee which is charged at 20 weeks gestation but a limited rebate from medicare is available.
All the antenatal visits are bulk-billed apart from the booking visit and the postnatal check. Again there is a rebate from medicare for both.

Do I need a referral to see Dr Ahmed?
Yes. You will need a referral to see Dr Ahmed in his rooms. You will not be able to access medicare rebates without a valid referral. A referral from your general practitioner is valid for a year while if it is from another specialist it is valid for 3 months

How early should I see Dr Shakil?
To ensure that all your risk factors are identified and addressed for and to discuss all the different options of investigations in pregnancy it is recommended that you have your first visit by 10-11 weeks. For patients with recurrent pregnancy loss or other complicated medical issues you could book a visit as soon as your pregnancy test is positive.
